Tigers Celebrate 2022-23 Season With Golden Awards

The Colorado College Athletics Department staff, coaches and student-athletes gathered in Ed Robson Arena Wednesday night for the 2023 Golden Awards, celebrating the Tigers' 2022-23 athletic accomplishments.
 
Senior Charlotte Furman, President of the Colorado College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, opened the evening with a welcome to her fellow student-athletes.
 
Vice President and Director of Athletics Lesley Irvine shared several of the athletic accomplishments before the awards were handed out.
 
The award winners were voted on by the student-athletes and athletics department staff:
 
Best Game – The women's basketball team defeating No. 1-ranked Trinity University, 70-64, at home on Feb. 5.
 
Best Upset – The hockey team defeating No. 3-ranked Denver, 1-0, in the NCHC Frozen Faceoff semifinal to advance to its first-ever NCHC Championship Game.
 
Best Moment – The men's cross country team winning its fourth consecutive SCAC title and sweeping all special awards, including Runner of the Year (James Settles), Newcomer of the Year (Joe Bullock) and Elite 19 (Settles).
 
Best Performance (Individual) – Senior Kate Brush winning the 200 Butterfly at the SCAC Championships. She won the event by a huge margin (5.3 seconds), breaking the CC Record, SCAC Championships Record, SCAC Open Record, and achieving an NCAA standard. Brush went on to earn All-America status in the race at the NCAA Championships.
 
Community Service Award – Sophomore Healy Bledsoe for the women's basketball and lacrosse teams. She is involved with Team IMPACT and visiting a local elementary school.
 
Best Team of the Year – The women's cross country team, which captured the top nine places at the 2022 SCAC Championship Meet for a perfect score and won the team title for the second straight year. The Team finished 20th at the NCAA Division III Championships.
 
Coaching Staff of the Year – The women's basketball staff of head coach Katherine Menendez and assistant coaches Lauren Brocke and Lisa Guhl. The Tigers posted 19 wins, the most since 1981 and Menendez was named SCAC Coach of the Year.
 
Newcomer of the Year – Freshman Kaidan Mbereko of the hockey team, who led the nation among first-year players with a .925 save percentage and was named to the All-College Hockey News Rookie Team.
 
Sportsmanship Award – Senior DeAnte' Dennis (Men's Basketball)
 
Jerry Carle Weight Room Award (Female) – Junior Keeley Kandzioria (Volleyball)
 
Jerry Carle Weight Room Award (Male) – Senior Kevin Peterson (Men's Soccer)
 
Diversity and Inclusion Award – Sophomore Adrian Price (Men's Basketball)
 
Tiger Award (Best Tiger Spirit) – Senior Laura Strenk (Women's Basketball)
 
Mentorship Award – Senior Noah Johnson (Men's Soccer)
 
Senior Male Student-Athlete of the Year – Senior Luca Lietti (Men's Lacrosse)
 
Senior Female Student-Athlete of the Year – Senior Kate Brush (Women's Swimming)
 
Chris M. Quon Award (Established by the SAAC in 2010 following Quon's untimely death after graduating from CC in 2009) – Senior Susie Renehan (Women's Lacrosse)
