Colorado College junior James Settles has been selected to compete at the 2023 NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships, held next week at the Polisseni Track and Field Complex in Rochester, N.Y.
 
Settles qualified for the 5,000-meter run with a school-record time of 14:08.47 at the Oxy Invitational earlier this month. He has the 17th-fastest time in the country for Division III entering the national meet.
 
The Claremont, Calif., product is the first CC male to qualify for the Division III Outdoor Championship since Josh Fry competed in the 800 and 1500 in 2021 and the first to qualify in the 5K since Julian Boggs in 2007.
 
"We are very excited for James to be competing at the national meet," head coach Katie Bretscher said. "It seems like every year it is getting harder for athletes to qualify. This year is no different. James has had an impressive season so far. I can't think of a better way for him to end it."

The 5K race is scheduled for 2 p.m. (MT) on Saturday, May 27.
