Men's Track & Field Athletic Communications

Both T&F Teams, Three Tigers Earn USTFCCCA Academic Awards

For the 15th consecutive year, the Colorado College men's and women's track and field teams earned the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's All-Academic Team award and three Tigers were named All-Academic Athletes.

The women's team posted a 3.81 cumulative grade-point average, while the men have a 3.68 cumulative GPA. Those marks rank No. 4 among all Division III teams in each gender.

To earn the All-Academic Team award, the cumulative GPA of all student-athletes who used a season of eligibility must be at least a 3.1 on a 4.0 scale through the most recent semester/quarter.

Colorado College joined the University of Dallas, Southwestern University and Trinity University as the only institutions from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference to have both teams recognized for the 2022-23 season and the Tigers had the highest GPA of all SCAC schools.

In addition, rising seniors James Settles and Devlin Swanson from the men's team and rising junior Elliot Singer from the women's team were named All-Academic Athletes by the USTFCCCA.

"High achieving academics embodies the student-athlete experience," head coach Katie Bretscher said. "This is what we strive for in our program. I am proud of our student-athletes who show the ability to perform at high levels on the track and in the classroom."

Settles earned the school's first All-America honor by a male since Julian Boggs in 2007 by finishing fourth in the 5K at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He was named the SCAC Male Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 5K and 10K at the league meet and holds the school record in both events.

Last month, he was named a second-team Academic All-American by the College Sports Communicators.

Swanson, meanwhile, finished second in the 5K and 10K races at the SCAC Championships and had the 49th-fastest time in Division III for the 10K.

Singer earned her second straight All-Academic selection after defending her 10K title at the SCAC Championships and finishing third in the 5K. She had the 46th-fastest time in Division III for the 10K.

To qualify for the All-Academic Athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.2 and finish the season among the top 50 individuals as listed on the descending order lists on TFRRS.
