The Colorado College volleyball team dropped an exciting match to Texas Lutheran in five sets on Saturday afternoon at the Robertson Center on the campus of Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas before losing 3-1 to St. Thomas in the second match of the day.
Colorado College is now 4-6 on the year and 1-2 in the SCAC.
Against Texas Lutheran, the Tigers took the first set 25-17, but TLU responded with a 25-12 win in the second to knot the match at 1-1. The third set took extra points, with CC claiming the win, 27-25, but TLU won the fourth frame, 26-24, to force a winner-take-all fifth set. The Bulldogs won the match with a gutsy 15-13 victory in the final frame.
Senior Keeley Kandziora led the Tigers with 20 kills and freshman Meghan Gannon was tops with 24 digs. CC recorded 13 service aces to TLU's four.
In the second match of the day, St. Thomas outhit CC .199 to .123 during the 3-1 win.
St. Thomas won the first set easily, 25-12. In the second set, St. Thomas led by as much as six before allowing the Tigers to pull to within two, 23-21. But a huge kill late gave the Celts the 25-23 win.
In the third set CC jumped out to a huge 10-3 lead and won handily, 25-15.
Early in the fourth set the Celts took the lead but the Tigers pulled within two, 10-8. Late in the set the two teams were separated by one point, 24-23, before an attack error by CC gave St. Thomas the 25-23 win.
In the match, sophomore Carolyn Dormady was tops with 14 kills while Gannon led the team with 29 digs and the team tallied 91 digs in the match.
