Bayston Reaches 1,000 Career Points in Win Over Crusaders

Audrey Bayston became just the 15th player in Colorado College women's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points. The senior needed 17 points coming into Sunday against the University of Dallas, and she got that exact amount to help lead CC to a 73-58 win over the Crusaders.

Both Bayston and Zoë Tomlinson led the way with 17 points each. Audrey grabbed eight boards, an assist and a steal, while Tomlinson returned after missing one game to swipe 12 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal.

Bayston is just the 15th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.

Sunday's performance is Tomlinson's 14th double-double of the season leading all of NCAA DIII.

"Seeing Audrey hit her 1,000th point tonight was really special. She has been a determined, leadership-driven and inspirational part of this program since day one and this accomplishment is a deserved payoff for all of her hard work," head coach Katherine Auguste said. ""Zoë coming back and earning another double-double with such defensive pressure on her was impressive – her presence on the court makes a difference and changes the way opponents have to play us."

The Tigers leaned on a solid second half to seal their seventh straight victory. CC shot 57.14 percent from the floor in the third quarter and finished the game drilling seven of 10 free throws in the final minutes to cap the win.

In the first, CC got an early lead, shooting 46.7 percent and outscoring Dallas 16-11. Healey Bledsoe and Bayston each scored five points in the opening ten minutes.

The Crusaders bounced back in the second quarter to outscore the Tigers in the quarter 19-18 and bring the halftime margin to only four points at 34-30. Taylor Rawls scored six in the quarter for Dallas, but CC shot 50 percent going into the halftime break.

In the third, the Tigers came out pressing and forced the Crusaders on their heels, preventing shots from long range as Dallas shot 16 of their 34 first-half shot attempts from deep.

Dallas made only one three in the second half and ended the game 4-20 from deep. On the other hand, CC came into the game with the best three-point percentage in the conference and went 6-15 on Sunday, led by Bayston, Isa Nelson and Kayla Mackel, who all made multiple threes.

CC built up their lead to 12 points going into the fourth quarter and were able to cruise in the final 10 minutes to improve to 13-4 (7-1 SCAC) on the year.

The Tigers now sit atop the standings of the SCAC and currently lead the conference in total defense,  allowing just 53.3 points per game.

"Our composure and competitiveness showed while facing a very talented Dallas team. They were strong in transition and had a great mid-range game, both of which really challenged our defense. Our guards did a great job containing in the second half and everyone picked up the rebounding to help us find success," Auguste said.

Next is a pair of games against two more conference foes, starting with Southwestern on Friday, Jan. 26, and then a rematch against Texas Lutheran on Sunday, Jan. 28.
