Hendler Scores Career-High, Leads CC over Oxy

The Tigers are riding a three-game winning streak for the second time this season after downing Occidental 67-58 in Los Angeles, CA on Saturday night. The Colorado College men's basketball team finished its non-conference schedule with a pair of statement wins on the West Coast.

Freshman Ty Hendler scored a career-high 16 points. The San Diego native showed off in his return to his home state, finishing the game shooting 3-5 from three-point range, four rebounds, four assists and one steal.

"I'm so proud of this team," head coach Jeff Conarroe said. "This was another great win vs a really good team. We are getting different guys to step up on different nights and we are making plays when the game is on the line."

Dinari Boykin followed Hendler with 15 points, seven boards, three assists and two steals. 10 different Tigers scored against Occidental.

CC never trailed on Saturday night after scoring the first bucket, a layup by Adrian Price. Occidental answered with their first basket, but the Tigers regained the lead and never looked back.

Hendler scored 10 of his 16 points in the first half, shooting 66.7 percent from the floor the same percentage from three.

As a team, CC shot 51.7 percent in the first 20 minutes and held Oxy to 38.7 percent from the floor. At the break, the Tigers led 37-26.

In the second half, Oxy outshot CC 14-11 but the Tigers maintained their lead by holding Oxy to 1-13 from three in the second. The game was brought back within two points with 6:07 left in the game but back-to-back jumpers by Gavin Carter and Boykin extended the lead back out to six.

The boards were also controlled by the Tigers. CC outrebounded Oxy in the second half 22-15 and overall 41-30.

The Tigers held on from there to eventually win 67-58 and improve to 10-7 on the year. It is the best record through 17 games for CC since the 2015-16 season where they started 11-6 and ended the season 16-11.

"The thing I'm most proud of is the courage and toughness we are showing to do the little things that contribute to winning. We are also showing great humility and togetherness," Conarroe said. 'They are a special group."

CC will return to SCAC play next weekend and wrap up their six-game road trip against Southwestern on Jan. 26 and Texas Lutheran on Jan. 28.
