Sherrill Has Career Night, Leads Tigers Over Celts

The Colorado College volleyball team returned to the win column with a 3-1 victory over St. Thomas in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match up on Friday in Houston, Tex.

CC prevailed in a competitive 28-25 first set, pulled ahead 25-22 in a close second set, and dropped the third 25-22 but ultimately rebounded to win the fourth set 25-19.

Sophomore Camille Sherrill led the team with a career-high 22 kills and finished with a .340 hitting clip. Carolyn Dormady followed suit with 18 kills, and Brooke Brilliant was the final player with double-digit kills, racking up 10 and a team-high .450 hitting percentage.

After winning the first two points, CC fell behind 7-4 in the first set. The Tigers responded to UST's five-point run with a run of their own to take an 8-7 lead. The two teams traded leads for the remainder of the set until it was a CC 24-22 set point. The Celts scored three straight points to take a 25-24 lead, but the Tigers scored four of five final points, capped by Annie Steger's and Sherrill's consecutive kills.

The Tigers hit a .246 clip in the first and a .262 clip in the second set, the second-best of the night. CC got out to a 5-4 lead in the set and had the lead most of the way. UST regained its lead 21-20, but once again, the Tigers closed the set convincingly, dishing out three straight points to end it. Sherrill collected her fourth of the set, Gannon made it 24-22 and then concluded with a service ace.

CC dropped the third set with its worst hitting percentage of the night (0.07) but bounced back to have its best set in the fourth. The Tigers dished out a .393 clip in the final set as Dormady and Sherril combined for eight kills.

The Tigers had four strings of three or more point streaks and held the Celts to a .217 clip. CC built up their biggest lead of the night, 17-12 and never looked back, scoring the final three points again. UST committed back-to-back errors before Sherrill capped off her career night with her 22nd kill on match point to seal the victory.

CC improved to 9-7 (5-1) on the season and look next to No. 16 Southwestern in Houston on Saturday. Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. MT.
