Camille Sherrill had a career-high 23 kills and
Brooke Brilliant added 16 to lead the Colorado College volleyball team to a thrilling, five-set upset over 16
th-ranked Southwestern University Saturday afternoon in Houston, Texas.
Â
Sherrill, who collected a then career-high 22 kills in Friday's four-set win over St. Thomas, was a monster offensively and defensively on Saturday, equaling her career-best with 21 digs, set last night as well.
Â
After falling 25-23 in the first set, the Tigers stormed back to take a 2-1 lead, 25-19 and 25-12, thanks in large part to Sherrill (eight kills) and Brilliant (seven kills). The Pirates, who suffered their first league loss of the season, rallied to take set four, 25-22, but the Tigers held firm and won the fifth and deciding set, 15-11.
Â
Colorado College trailed 9-8 in the final set, but a pair of kills from Sherrill and one from Brilliant put the Tigers ahead 11-9. Southwestern cut it to 11-10, but CC rolled off four of the final five points to take the victory. Sherrill had six kills and just one error, while Brilliant had three kills with no errors, in the fifth set.
