The No. 4 Colorado College men's soccer team returns to Stewart Field after spending the last two weeks on the road. CC will try to claim it's second-straight SCAC regular season title. The Tigers host Schreiner and No. 14 Trinity on Friday and Sunday.
Last Time Out
CC went 2-0 in it's critical road trip against then No. 24 Southwestern and Texas Lutheran. The Tigers shut out the Pirates 1-0 and followed it up with another shutout 2-0 win over the Bulldogs.
The Tigers have shut out seven consecutive opponents, it is the longest streak of shutouts in program history and currently the longest in the country. The longest overall streak this season so far is 10 straight games, which Geneva was the owner of.
Alex Meyerhoff scored his first goal of the season on Friday after the Pirates were called for a foul inside their box. Meyerhoff took the penalty for CC, found the back of the net, put the Tigers in front, and ended up being the game-winner.
On Sunday at TLU,
Dylan Stapley and
Alexander Ward scored the two CC goals in the 82nd and 84th minute to lift the Tigers to a 12-1-2 record. Stapley put the Tigers up off a set piece, and Ward scored on another penalty kick.
In The Polls
CC has spent the entire season in the Top 10 of the United Coaches National Poll. The Tigers have ranked as high as No. 3 and have been sitting at No. 4 for the last two weeks.
CC ranks third in shutout percentage nationally and has the longest shutout streak amongst all DIII teams. The Tigers also have the best goals-against average in the country, surrendering only 0.267 goals per game.
The goalkeepers,
Spencer Besselaar and
Alex Wolter combine for the fifth-best save percentage in the nation, saving 89.7 percent of shots on net.
What's At Stake this Weekend
Schriener comes into the weekend with a 2-4-1 conference record (3-9-1) overall and currently ranks 10th in the SCAC standings. Trinity is currently first with an undefeated 12-0-2 overall record (7-0 SCAC). The Tigers jumped to No. 14 in the national polls, which makes this matchup the highest-ranked SCAC game of the season with two top-15 teams.
The Mountaineers are led by Zaaron Gonzalez and Owen Harris, who combined for 10 goals and 24 points this season. Gonzalez leads the team with three assists.
The Tigers are led by Adam Knutson who also leads the conference with 12 goals. The junior is 26th in the country in goals and fifth in game-winning goals. He has 27 points with three assists. Cade Dougan is first on the team with five assists.
