The No. 5 Colorado College men's soccer team aims to win its second-straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season title as it hosts Austin College and the University of Dallas on Friday, Nov. 1, and Sunday, Nov. 3.
What's At Stake
CC (13-1-3) enters the weekend with an 8-0-1 conference record. If the Tigers win on Friday and Saturday, they can be the outright SCAC regular season champions. However, CC is tied with Trinity for first in the standings. If Trinity wins both games against Ozarks and Centenary, then CC and Trinity would be considered co-regular season champions.
If the SCAC has a co-regular season champion, a tie-breaker will determine the No. 1 seed for the SCAC Tournament. If the regular season ended today, it would be CC because they have surrendered fewer goals than Trinity.
Last Time Out
CC remained unbeaten in conference play after downing Schreiner 5-0 last Friday and tying with then-No. 14 Trinity 1-1 on Sunday.
Six Tigers accounted for the six goals over the weekend.
Alexander Ward and
Vincent Luglio scored their team-high sixth goal against the Mountaineers. Ward broke the scoring open in the 15th minute and CC never trailed. The team outshot Schreiner 35-1.
Against Trinity, CC surrendered its first goal of SCAC play in the 16th minute during a penalty kick.
Curtis Hale knotted up the score at 1-1 in the 43rd minute for his first goal of the season.
In the Polls
CC fell a spot from No. 4 to No. 5 in the latest United Coaches national poll. The Tigers have been ranked in the top nine all season and have been as high as No. 3.
The Tigers currently have the best defense in the country, surrendering only 0.294 goals per game. CC also had the longest shutout streak (eight) before last weekend. They currently rank third in the nation in shutout percentage (.706).
CC is also sixth nationally with a +38 goal differential.
Scouting The Opposition
Austin College enters Friday with a 6-10-2 (4-4-1) record and is coming off a 5-3 victory over McMurry on Oct. 27. The 'Roos are seventh in the conference standings.
