Colorado College Women's Basketball heads to Minnesota for a four-team tournament at Macalester College after winning its two opening games last weekend at Reid Arena.
CC will play Simpson College on Frida, Nov. 22, to tip off the Twin Cuties Invitational. If the Tigers win, they'll play the winner between Macalester College and North Central University on Saturday. The two losing teams from Friday's matchups will also play each other on Saturday.
Last Time Out
CC rolled past the Pacific University last Friday, downing the Boxers 76-58. Seniors
Zoë Tomlinson and
Healy Bledsoe combined for 37 points, 14 rebounds and five assists. Last year, Tomlinson and Bledsoe were honored as the SCAC Player of the Year and SCAC Defensive Player of the Year, respectively.
The Tigers outscored the Boxers in every quarter except the fourth, which wasn't too problematic for CC, who entered the final quarter with a 62-34 lead.
On Saturday, the Tigers took down North Central 82-78 on a career night for sophomore
Isa Nelson. Nelson was one of four Tigers to score in double digits, leading the team with a career-high 19 points. She also started and played all 40 minutes, another career record. The Edina, Minnesota native didn't turn the ball over against the Cardinals.
Juniors
Kayla Mackel dished out a season-high 18 points, and Tomlinson and Bledsoe fell a rebound short of a double-double.
The Tigers entered the fourth quarter of the game with an 18-point lead, but North Central battled back to bring themselves within four. Even though the final score was a little close for comfort, CC didn't trail once over all four quarters of play.
Scouting The Opposition
Simpson College is 1-1 on the year after beating UW–Eau Claire before losing to UW–La Crosse the following day. The Storm went 14-12 overall last year and 9-7 in conference.
The Storm are led by senior Haley Rasmussen, averaging 20.5 points per game through the first week. Fellow senior Molly Lutmer follows suit with 18.5 ppg.
It'll be the first meeting between the two teams.
Depending on the results of both games, the Tigers will play either Macalester or battle North Central on Saturday.
