Last Time Out

The Tigers had a successful trip up north to Minnesota, downing both Simpson College (76-52) and Macalester College (62-57) to win the Twin Cities Invitational. Seniors Zoë Tomlinson, Laura Strenk and Healy Bledsoe led the Tigers over the Storm on Friday. CC held Simpson to only 38.3 percent shooting from the floor.

The following night against the Scots, junior Kayla Mackel scored a career-high 24 points and made four three-pointers. The Houston native played 37 minutes and grabbed six boards.

To close out the road trip, CC battled No. 10 Gustavus Adolphus but barely came up short against the ranked Gusties by a final score of 78-72. Mackel followed up her Saturday performance with four more three-pointers, and she finished with 21 points, all of which came in the second half.

Tomlinson led the Tigers, averaging 20 points and 10.3 rebounds over the three games.

The Return Of Strenk

This season, Laura Strenk returned to the lineup after missing the 2023-24 season. The Golf, Ill native has played and started in every game this year, averaging 31.5 minutes and 8.4 points per game.

She leads the team with 21 assists and is second in three-point shooting behind Mackel.

Mackel Is Money

Kayla Mackel continues to be one of the biggest deep-shooting threats in the region. The junior is leading the Tigers with 16 three-pointers through the first five games. She is shooting 36 percent from long range but has also attempted a team-high 45 threes.

She has three straight games with four three-pointers, the longest streak of her career.

Scouting The Opposition

Mary Hardin-Baylor enters Friday with an undefeated 3-0 record. The Cru has impressive wins over other Southern Collegiate Conference teams, including Trinity, whom they downed 58-45 in the season opener.

Pacific Lutheran is 1-4 coming into the weekend after also playing some SCAC opponents. The Lutes recently lost back-to-back games to Texas Lutheran and Concordia University in Tacoma, Wash.
