12 Colorado College men's soccer players received All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference honors, announced on Friday, Nov. 8th. Three Tigers received first-team nods, while two of the major four SCAC awards were given to CC.
It's the second consecutive year the Tigers have had multiple major award winners.
Head coach
Scott Palguta and two assistant coaches, Sean Elvert and
Tomas Martinez, were named the SCAC Coaching Staff of the Year. It was Palguta's second-consecutive and third all-time Coach of the Year award in his coaching tenure.
Palugta led CC to a 10-0-1 conference mark and a share of the program's third SCAC regular season title. CC, currently ranked fifth in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll and No. 9 in the most recent NCAA Power Index rankings (11/6), will be the top seed at this weekend's conference tournament with an overall mark of 15-1-3. Last fall, the Tigers made history, reaching the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 30 years, marking their best season since 1992.
Palguta's career coaching record is 122-40-24, placing him second all-time among SCAC men's soccer coaches (with five or more years). He is currently fourth all-time in conference wins with 83, and his .814 conference winning percentage (83-14-13) ranks second all-time.
Senior
Curtis Hale was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the third consecutive year. The Richmond, Va. native was named the Co-DPOTY in 2022, then won it outright in 2023, only to do the same this season.
He is the first men's soccer player to earn Defensive Player-of-the-Year honors three times in his career.
Hale is the leader of a defensive unit that currently sits first in both the conference and the country in goals-against average, surrendering only 0.316 goals per game entering the SCAC Tournament. CC has the best defense in the SCAC with the top save (.884 – sixth in the nation) and shutout percentage (.706 – third in the nation). The nation's fifth-ranked team, Colorado College, has posted shutouts in 12 of its18 matches this season, including nine of its 11 conference fixtures. Hale has also chipped in offensively for the Tigers, scoring one goal and assisting three others for five points, with all those contributions coming in conference play.
Hale was one of the three All-SCAC first team selections. Senior Alexandar Ward earned his first career first-team nod after being named a second-team selection for the prior four seasons. Ward currently is second on the team with six goals and 15 points.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Alex Wolter earned his first All-SCAC selection. The New Canaan, Conn. native had a 6-2-2 record on the season and five shutouts. The Tigers had the best goals-against average in the nation entering the SCAC Tournament.
Rex Karjian,
Wyatt Linggi,
Oliver Ramirez,
Will Bavier and
Jack Hilliard were named second-team selections. It's Bavier's third all-conference selection and his second on the second team.
Freshman
Teddy Opler was the only Tiger named to the All-Freshman team. The Chicago native leads all CC first-year players with 20 games played, four goals and three assists.
Sophomore
Dylan Stapley and seniors
Charlie Wagner and
Vincent Luglio were named as Honorable Mention selections.
