The Colorado College women's basketball team looks to continue its best start to a season in 47 years as it opens up Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play in Houston, Texas. The Tigers (6-1) will take on St. Thomas (2-3) at noon MT on Saturday, Dec. 14th.
Last Time Out
CC went 2-0 at the Colorado College Fall Classic from Nov.29-Dec. 1. The Tigers downed Mary Hardin-Baylor 81-58 and Pacific Lutheran 67-47 to move to 6-1 on the year, their best start since the 1976-77 season.
Against the Crusaders, junior
Kayla Mackel scored a career-high 25 points and shot 5-9 from three-point range. CC made 10 first-quarter three-pointers en route to the victory.
Senior
Zoë Tomlinson capped the weekend with a 29-point, 18-rebound performance against Pacific Lutheran on Saturday. Tomlinson became just the third player in Colorado College women's basketball history to surpass 1,000 career rebounds while leading the Tigers to a victory.
Player Of The Week
Tomlinson received conference and national recognition for her weekend performance at the Colorado College Fall Classic. The New York native was named the SCAC Player of the Week and made the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week.
She averaged 25 points, 16.7 rebounds, three assists and 2.3 blocks over the three games, including the game against Gustavus Adolphus.
So far this season, Tomlinson leads the team and is second in the SCAC with 20.7 points per game. She is first in the SCAC with 13.3 rebounds per game.
By The Numbers
CC entered the week receiving votes in both the D3hoops.com and WBCA national polls. The Tigers rank first in the SCAC in a few team categories, including assist-to-turnover ratio, blocks per game, rebounding margin, and rebounds per game.
The Tigers have the best scoring offense in the SCAC, averaging 73.7 points per game and rank 21 nationally in three-point percentage.
The Tigers' only loss on the season came to No. 10 Gustavus Adolphus. In its wins, CC's scoring margin is 15.67 points per game.
Scouting The Opposition
St. Thomas looks to end its three-game losing streak after starting the year 2-0. The Celts recently dropped a 70-46 contest to East Texas Baptist on Dec. 10.
Jordan Thomas leads the team with 8.8 points per game followed by Macie Whitfield with 8.2 ppg. The Celts have seven players averaging 6.0 points per game or more.
