CC Outpaced by First Place Trinity in San Antonio

The Colorado College women's basketball team and Trinity scored 170 points on Sunday in San Antonio, Texas. However, CC was on the losing end of a 90-80 offensive showcase between two of the top teams in the SCAC.

Zoë Tomlinson led CC with 22 points, 16 rebounds, an assist, and two blocks. She has now had 20 double-doubles on the season in only 23 games. Five Tigers scored in double digits. Tomlinson is 12 points away from surpassing 1,000 career points. She would join Audrey Bayston as the second player to reach that milestone this season.

Kayla Mackel followed Tomlinson with 19 points, one rebound, four assists and a steal. The sophomore was 4-6 from three-point range and finished the game 7-9 (77.8 percent) from the floor.

Healy Bledsoe racked up 16 points, three rebounds and two steals. The freshmen pair of Rose Koehler and Isa Nelson combined for 21 points, 11 rebounds, and two assists.

Both Tiger teams exchanged leads in the first quarter, but the game went into the second tied 21-21. Trinity pulled ahead in the second after racking up 28 points and shooting 53.33 percent from the floor.

CC finished the game outshooting Trinity 31-27 in shots made on the floor. The Tigers made 54.4 percent of their shots, including 40 percent from long range.

The main difference in the game was the charity stripe. Trinity shot 32 free throw attempts and made 27 (84.38 percent). CC was 92 percent from the line but attempted only 13 free throws.

Trinity racked up only 13 fouls to CC's 23. CC outrebounded their opponents 39-22.

Trinity led in the entire second half and built their advantage to 12 points after making the first basket after the halftime break. CC stormed back to make it a 48-50 contest with 6:42 left. CC outscored Trinity 24-22 in the third quarter. Trinity went on a mini-run of their own and kept the lead at arm's length in the fourth quarter to seal the win and split the regular season between the two teams.

CC drops to 16-7 (10-4) within conference play and will return home to Reid Arena next weekend to close the regular season against Austin College and the University of Dallas. The Tigers will host the 'Roos on Friday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m.
