Friday, Feb. 23, kicks off the 2024 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament in Shreveport, LA. The Colorado College women's basketball team enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face the No. 6 seeded University of Dallas on Friday at 6:00 p.m. MT.
The Tigers ended the regular season with an 18-7 record (12-4) and are riding a two-game winning streak. CC downed both Austin College and Dallas to close out the regular season.
Last Time Out
CC wrapped up their regular season schedule on Sunday, Feb. 18, against Dallas and defeated the Crusaders 74-49. Three players scored 19 points, including
Rose Koehler, who surpassed her previous career-high 16 points. The freshman finished the game with seven rebounds, three assists and a block.
Zoë Tomlinson nabbed another double-double, to no one's surprise. The junior center dished out 19 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and a block. She finished the regular season with 22 double-doubles, the most in Division III and second in the NCAA.
The Tigers also routed Austin College 65-40 on Friday night.
Redemption Story
CC has made it to back-to-back SCAC Tournament Championship games but was on the losing end of both. The third time hopes to be the charm for the Tigers as they aim for their first SCAC Tournament title since joining the conference 16 years ago.
The excellent news for CC is that the team that downed them in the prior two championship games, Trinity. CC owns a victory over them this season. CC hosted this year's No. 1 seed on Jan. 5 and won convincingly 63-49. Trinity got revenge on Feb. 11 in San Antonio; a potential rubber match could happen this Sunday.
Quite The Season Thus Far
The 18 wins through the first 25 games is the most since the 1979-1980 season when CC finished 20-8. This year is the best regular season the Tigers have had since joining the SCAC in 2007.
CC finished last year 19-5, one win short of their first 20-win season in 41 years. The Tigers had three straight 20-win seasons from 1978-81.
100 Wins
Katherine Auguste is two wins away from her 100th career win as a head coach. The former North Central College basketball player has been at the helm at CC since 2016 and has 98 wins currently.
Two wins in the quarterfinals and semis would put her at an even 100 and place the Tigers in their third-straight tournament championship game.
Zoë Tomlinson…That's the Tweet
Junior
Zoë Tomlinson enters the postseason as the conference's leader in scoring, rebounds and field goal percentage. The New York native is averaging 17.6 points and 14.0 rebounds per game. She shoots 52.8 percent from the floor and has 22 double-doubles. The only NCAA women's basketball player with more is Lauren Gustin from Brigham Young University, who has 26. Tomlinson has the most amongst all DII and DIII players.
How The Field Stacks Up
No. 5 seed Dallas comes into Friday with a 13-12 (7-9 SCAC) record. The Crusaders have lost three straight games, and their recent win was on Feb. 2 against Southwestern. Dallas has three scorers averaging eight points or more per game. Sophomore forward Tessa Hastings leads the team with 9.7 points and 1.1 blocks per game.
Texas Lutheran, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, awaits the CC and Dallas matchup winner in the semifinals. The Bulldogs swept the regular season series against the Tigers, the only SCAC team to defeat CC twice this year.
Defending champion Trinity is the No. 1 seed and will play the winner of the No. 4 Schreiner and No. 5 Austin College matchup.
