The Colorado College women's basketball team lost to Schreiner 63-69 in overtime on Friday night in Kerrville, Texas.
Zoē Tomlinson grabbed a career-high 26 rebounds, which puts her at 825 career rebounds, currently the fifth-most in program history. She is also sixth all-time with 293 this season—last season, she reached 305 rebounds, the fourth most in a single season in program history.
The 26 rebounds are tied for most in a single game in CC Tiger history. Debby Nalty also had 26 rebounds in a game back in 1983 against Mesa State College (now known as Colorado Mesa University). Tomlinson is also tied for the third most women's single-game rebounds in SCAC history and second for the most in a conference game.
"Zoë had an amazing night on the boards – setting the program record for single-game rebounds is a fitting achievement in this area as it is perhaps how she impacts the game most positively for our team," head coach
Katherine Auguste said. "She worked incredibly hard tonight and despite the team result not being what we wanted, this is a high point. We're all proud of Zoë and the season she's having and looking forward to more good performances as we head toward post-season."
Healy Bledsoe had another great game on the boards, grabbing a career-high 10 rebounds. With her three on Friday, she also surpassed 100 career steals. The Bend, OR, native currently has 48 on the season.
"Healy works so hard every game and you never quite know where her ultimate impact will show up," Auguste said. "To earn a career-high in rebounds one game after her career-high in points? She's a competitor and a tireless worker. Perhaps most importantly, someone who makes this team better at every turn with her effort."
Despite the tough OT loss, the Tigers were led by Tomlinson, who finished the game with 26 swipes, 27 points and two steals. She has 19 double-doubles this season, still the most among NCAA DIII players.
Overall, CC struggled shooting the basketball; they finished the game converting 31.1 percent from the floor, including 21.43 percent in overtime, while the Mountaineers outscored the Tigers 13- 7 in extra time.
The Tigers led 24-17 at the half after a big second quarter where
Kayla Mackel, Tomlison and
Isa Nelson were +7 in the +/- with Tomlinson leading the way with six points. Nelson and Mackel finished the game with a combined 11 points, six rebounds and five assists.
CC had the lead with 34 seconds to go when Tomlinson drilled a free throw to put CC out in front by three points. On the ensuing possession, Schreiner countered with a three-pointer to tie it up 56-56.
The Tigers had two chances in the final seconds but couldn't find the nylon, and the Mountaineers would eventually run with the game in overtime.
CC looks ahead to a big game against first-place Trinity on Sunday, Feb. 11, with major SCAC Tournament seeding implications.
