On Tuesday evening, the Colorado College women's lacrosse team's two-game win ended against the No. 12 Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks. The Tigers ultimately fell 14-11 and dropped to 2-3 on the season, while the Ducks remain a perfect 6-0.
Â
CC finished the game outshooting their opponents 32-26, but 22 of Stevens' 26 shots were on target. The Tigers fell behind in the first quarter, and despite battling their way back multiple times, they were unable to take the lead.Â
Â
Freshman
Charlotte Iler led the team with four points after racking up two goals and two assists. The Simsbury, CT native now has 11 goals on the season, which is third on the team. In all of the games Iler has played, she has contributed three or more points per game.Â
Â
Senior
Kendall Havill had another multi-goal game; she finished with two goals off 11 shots and now has 20 on the season, second in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC).Â
Â
The Ducks struck first in the game's first six minutes before the Tigers got on the scoreboard. Down 2-0,
Caroline Shay finished on a woman-down situation and cut the lead down to one goal with 9:39 left in the quarter. Stevens replied a minute later, but
Devon Ortman scored her eighth goal of the season with 2:33 left to make it 3-2.Â
Â
Both teams scored four times in the second quarter as the Ducks led 7-6 at the break. Iler scored both of her goals in the quarter and assisted on another.Â
Â
In the third, Stevens scored quickly a minute into play, but
Tobin Lonergan answered with her score a minute later to keep it a one-score contest. Maddie Hogan for Stevens countered the Lonergan score with back-to-back goals to increase the Ducks' lead to three. Hogan finished the game with a game-high five goals.Â
Â
CC entered the final quarter down three goals; Stevens eventually built a four-goal lead after scoring with 9:12 remaining in the game. Lonergan and Mancino attempted to spark a last-minute comeback with back-to-back goals. Down now by only two goals with less than four minutes to play, the Tigers were consequently unable to score again, and Stevens eventually put the game away with a woman-up goal with 55 seconds left.Â
Â
The Tigers will return to action on Saturday, March 16, when they host No. 18 U Chicago at Washburn Field. Game time is 10 a.m. MT.Â
