Susan "Stuey" Stuart won her first game as the head coach of the Colorado College women's lacrosse program in the spring of 1995. After 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and countless memories over the last three decades, Stuey collected her 300th win as the head coach in a memorable 26-16 win over No. 18 University of Chicago.
The Tigers got Stuey her 300th win by scoring the most goals in a game in program history. The former record was 25 goals, set on April 2, 2017, in a 25-9 win over Pomona-Pitzer.
CC recorded 40 shots against the Maroons and helped secure their first win over a ranked opponent since a 17-8 victory over SUNY Cortland on March 13, 2023.
Senior captain
Kendall Havill scored a career-high nine goals and 11 points. The Bainbridge, MA native led the team with nine goals and two assists. Havill had six goals in the first half alone, tying her season-high. It is the third game this season that No. 2 has scored six or more goals.
Freshman
Charlotte Iler tied her career high with four goals and five points. She has recorded that stat line twice this season, not bad for the first five games of a collegiate career.
Tobin Lonergan scored four goals and finished the game with five points and an assist.
CC launched to an early 6-1 lead, which is the best start to any game this season. After CC had gone the prior five games 0-5 on the opening goal, the Tigers scored six of the first seven and jumpstarted a historic day.
Chicago eventually got their offense going, and the first quarter ended with the Tigers in front 8-5. In the second, CC scored the first four goals of the quarter to extend their lead to 12-7. Havill scored three of her six first-half goals on this run, and CC went on another run to close out the quarter. They entered the third with an 18-11 lead. The Maroons were 29-16 at the halftime break. 25 of the 29 first-half CC shots were on goal, marking a season-high for most in a half.
The Tigers kept their lead in the second half, but the Maroons outscored CC 9-5 to cut the lead to 21-15 entering the final 15 minutes of play. However, Havill and
Caroline Shay scored and
Meilani Molina collected her first career goal to keep CC on pace. The Tigers eventually cruised to the 26-16 win.
The win is CC's first over the University of Chicago and their most significant margin of victory at home since a 22-5 win over Hendrix College on Senior Day in 2022.
Havill's nine goals now put her at 29 on the season. She also has a team-high 38 points thus far.
Goalkeeper
Cassidy Schnaufer picked up the win after racking up three saves after 30 minutes in the net. Freshman
Kathryn Mahoney placed the entire second half and logged two saves.
CC will play its third consecutive ranked team when No. 23 Hamilton College comes to town next Wednesday, March 20th. Game time is set for 3 p.m. MT.
