Tigers Defeat No. 20 Hamilton For Second-Straight Ranked Victory

The Colorado College women's lacrosse team downed No. 20 Hamilton College 16-11 on Wednesday, March 20, at Washburn Field. With the win, the Tigers secured their fourth victory in the last five games.

CC outshot the Continentals 36-34. Kendall Havill led the team with five goals off 14 shots. The senior now has 34 goals on the season.

Freshman Charlotte Iler has another multi-goal game, scoring three goals and racking up three two assists to finish the game with five points. The five points match her career high and is the third time Iler has recorded that mark this season.

Tobin Lonergan also recorded three goals and an assist. The junior is second on the team with 19 goals and 31 points.

In the first, the Tigers struck first, marking the second game in a row. CC recorded the opening goal after starting the season with 0-5 in scoring first. Caroline Shay scored the first two goals of the game. The first with 12:06 remaining in the quarter, and the second was a woman-up goal with 9:28 remaining.

Hamilton responded shortly after with a woman-up goal of their own with 7:56 left to make it 2-1. CC answered with their own score after Meghan Collins found Havill in the fan to put the Tigers back up by two goals.

Both teams exchanged goals to end the first, and CC went into the second quarter up 4-2. Iler recorded her first of three goals in another woman-up opportunity on an unassisted score in the second.

Iler, Havill, and Lonergan scored in the second, while CC and Hamilton each had nine shots. However, the Tigers outscored the Continentals 5-4 to increase their lead to 9-6 heading into the halftime break.

CC opened the third quarter with back-to-back strikes from Havill and Lonergan on unassisted goals. A Hamilton goal with 9:31 made it 11-7. Another goal from each team kept it a four-goal game entering the fourth quarter.

The Continentals never brought the game back within less than four goals, and the Tigers eventually increased their lead to as many as six goals to cruise to the 16-11 win. CC improves to 4-3 on the year and will return to Washburn Field to host DePauw on Wednesday, March 27th, at 4 p.m.
