11 different players from the Colorado College women's lacrosse team recorded points in a 20-5 rout of DePauw University on Wednesday at Washburn Field. The Tigers improved to 5-1 at home with the victory and extended their winning streak to three straight.
Kendall Havill led the team with six points (five goals and one assist). The captain is having a stellar season, as she now has 39 goals this season. Freshman
Charlotte Iler finished with five points, which ties her career high, and it is the third-straight game the Simsbury, CT, has recorded five points.
Tobin Lonergan also had five points after scoring three goals in the first quarter. The top three point producers for CC, Havill, Lonergan and Iler all performed to expectation against DePauw, but the collective team impressed in the win. Senior
Bridget Hanley recorded a season-high of four points, including a goal. The former SCAC Newcomer of the Year finished the day leading the team with three assists.
Healy Bledsoe scored her first goal of the season on a fast-break transition goal. The dual-sport athlete finished the game with a goal, four ground balls, and three caused turnovers. By the end of the game, 11 different Tigers recorded points, and CC as a whole outshot DePauw 33-15. CC grabbed 12 more ground balls than their opposition, finishing with 34. The Tigers grabbed 26 ground balls in the first half.
CC jumped out to an early lead for the third consecutive game thanks to a Lonergan unassisted goal a minute and one second into the game. Havill scored four minutes later, followed by Lonergan again to give CC a 3-0 lead with 8:15 to play. Iler recorded her first with 7:28 to play. DePauw got on the scoreboard with 1:51 left in the first, cutting the lead to three goals, but CC scored twice more to end the first.
The Tigers' best offensive quarter was the second, as CC put up seven goals and went into the halftime break up 13-2. Iler and Havill scored twice, along with
Caroline Shay,
Grace Bean and Bledsoe all finding the back of the net.
By the third quarter, the Tigers had a running clock but kept the pressure on offensively, outscoring DePauw 7-3 and cruising to the eventual 20-5 win. It is the third 20-goal performance for the Tigers this season and the second in the last three games.
CC will look ahead to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, whom the Tigers will play on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Washburn Field.
