CC Falls to Muhlenberg In OT

The Colorado College men's lacrosse team suffered a 14-13 overtime loss to Muhlenberg College on a wet and rainy Wednesday night at Washburn Field; the Tigers came back from a 7-1 deficit but fell short in the extra period.

The Tigers were led by Thomas Power, who scored seven points off two goals and a career-high five assists. The sophomore is on a mission this season, leading the team with 27 points through six games. The Mules scored the first five goals of the game before the Tigers finally answered back with a Braydon Ellis goal with 25 seconds left in the first quarter.

Ellis finished the game with another three-goal game. It is the third game in a row where Ellis has racked up three or more goals. He now has 12 goals in the last three games.

Muhlenberg increased its lead to 7-1 with 14 minutes left in the half, but the Tigers went on a run of their own, striking three consecutive times to narrow the lead to four. CC Jeffers, Power, and Ellis all scored on the scoring run.

Both teams exchanged goals to end the third quarter, and the Mules led into the third with a 10-6 advantage. The Tigers were outshot 29-15 in the first half, but in the third quarter, CC turned the tide and outscored the Mules 4-1.

Matt Hudson collected two goals in the third, ending the day with three goals off of six shots. Dylan Brown scored on a man-up opportunity, and the Tigers went into the fourth down only 11-10.

Michael Ruffenach tied the game up with a laser of a shot after an assist from Charli Faldi with 13:28 left. A pair of Karsten Nyrady and Hudson goals put the Tigers on top for the first time all evening with 8:22 to play. However, the Tigers were held scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Mules tied with the game at 13-13 seven minutes to play, only to eventually score the golden goal in OT to win the game.

Goalie Ben Anastos saved a season-high 18 balls.

CC drops to 4-2 on the season, ending its four-game winning streak. The Tigers will host Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, March 16th, at 1 p.m. MT as the team celebrates Senior Day.
