Titans Sneak Past Tigers On Senior Day

The Colorado College men's lacrosse program was defeated by Illinois Wesleyan University 17-15 in the final home game of the 2024 season. The Tigers celebrated Senior Day prior to the opening faceoff and honored the 12 seniors, with families and friends in attendance, to appreciate their hard work and dedication to the program.

CC and IWU battled wire to wire as neither team gained a sizable advantage. The Tigers ended the game with 45 shots to the Titans 47. Thomas Power led the team with 14 shots and finished the game with six points off his four goals and two assists. Saturday's performance puts Power at 22 goals, 11 assists and 33 points on the season, all of which are team highs.

The two teams started the game exchanging goals until it was 4-4 at the end of the first. The Titans went on the day's first run, starting the second quarter by scoring four straight goals. CC went a while without contributing to their existing goals on the scoreboard until Brayden Legette took it the distance and scored an unassisted goal in one of the better goals of the season. Another score by Roman Tacelli made it 8-6 IWU heading into the halftime break.

CC ended the first half with 27 shots, 14 being on target.

The Titans scored the first two in the third quarter, putting the lead back up to four goals. The Tigers responded with a run, racking up four straight scores to knot the game up at 10-10 with 4:57 left in the third.

IWU had a 14-13 lead entering the fourth and final quarter; CC could tie it up at 14-14 with a Max Carneal man-up goal. However, the Titans capitalized on some man-up opportunities and eventually scored three of the final four goals to win 17-15.

Goalie Ben Anastos collected 14 saves in his 57 minutes in net. Anastos left the game temporarily due to injury, only to return later in the game. Eli Turovsky entered in his place and picked up a save.

CC drops to 4-3 on the season and finishes the year with a 3-2 record at Washburn.

The Tigers will finish the regular season on the road as they travel to Hope College next week, March 21st, in Holland, Michigan.
