Strong Start Leads CC Over Hope College

On Thursday, the Colorado College men's lacrosse team returned to the win column after a hard-fought 9-7 win over Hope College in Holland, MI. CC took advantage of an early lead and never trailed in the contest despite a comeback effort from the Flying Dutchmen.

Matt Hudson led the team with two goals. The freshman now has 22 on the season, which is second on the team behind Thomas Power, who has 23. Power finished with a goal and an assist. The Englewood, CO native has scored a goal in all eight games this season.

Goalie Ben Anastos earned his fifth win of the season and finished the game with 17 saves and a save percentage of .708.

The Tigers scored the first four goals; Hudson struck first with 11:50 in the game after both teams struggled to get on the board in the first nine minutes. Charli Faldi assisted on the goal to put the Tigers up 1-0.

Dylan Brown scored less than two minutes later on an unassisted goal, and Power scored about a minute after Brown with an assist from Nick Johnson. Finally, Max Carneal found the back of the net with 3:06 left in the quarter to cap the Tigers' early run. Hope College finally responded with 92 seconds remaining to cut the game within three. However, with ten seconds left in the quarter, Braydon Ellis scored unassisted to give CC a 5-1 lead.

In the second quarter, CC increased their lead to five goals after a Johnson goal eight minutes in. Hope went on their first run of the day, scoring three unanswered goals to cut the CC advantage to two goals as both teams headed into the halftime break.

Hudson and Nyrady lit up the Tigers' offense again in the third quarter, scoring the lone goals of the quarter. CC led 8-4 as the fourth came around. In the fourth, the Flying Dutchmen scored three of the four goals, including the last two, to bring the game back within two goals. But the Tigers did enough early in the game to elevate themselves over Hope to win 9-7 and improve to 5-3 on the season.

Ryan Trepasso led the team with seven ground balls as the Tigers' 37 total to the Dutchmen's 32.

The win ends a two-game skid, improving the Tigers' road record to 2-1. CC will travel to Lake Forest, IL, to take on the Foresters of Lake Forest College on Saturday, March 23rd.
