Tigers Run Into Lake Forest, Finish 1-1 On Trip To Midwest

The Colorado College men's lacrosse team ended the week 1-1 after suffering a 13-9 loss to Lake Forest in Lake Forest, IL on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers drop to 5-4 on the season after the loss to the Foresters.

CC gave up 45 shots despite outshooting Lake Forest 23-20 in the second half. The Tigers fell behind early in the first quarter, surrendering three of the first four goals. Nick Johnson tied up the game 1-1 with 10:21 left in the quarter, but the Foresters closed out the first with back-to-back scores.

In the second, CC closed the gap to one score with two unassisted goals from Matt Hudson and CC Jeffers. Jeffers scored with 1:24 left to make it 4-3. However, Lake Forest struck on a man-up opportunity with 18 seconds left in the half and led 5-3 at the break.

The Tigers exploded out of the gates in the third quarter, equalizing the game with back-to-back goals from Michael Ruffenach and Dylan Brown. Knotted up at 5-5, Lake Forest scored twice with eight seconds of each other with nine minutes left in the quarter to regain a two-goal advantage.

CC scored once more from a Hudson man-up goal, but Lake Forest answered with two additional goals, and the Tigers trailed by three in the final quarter.

Much like the third, both teams were scoring left and right; Thomas Power had his first and only goal of the day to cut the lead down to two with 8:45 remaining. Lake Forest scored two more goals to increase the lead back to three with 4:25 left. The Tigers scored twice, once from Hudson with 3:47 remaining and finally once more from Michael Ruffenach with 1:56 left on the clock. Consequently, the Foresters responded to each goal and closed out the game to win 13-9.

Hudson led the Tigers with three goals, bringing his season total to a team-high 25, an outstanding mark for the freshman. Power's goal brings his season total to 24. CC was 20-24 on clears and won 12 of the 16 faceoffs.

CC will travel to Georgetown, Texas, to take on Southwestern on Saturday, April 6th.
