Molina Racks Up Five Goals, Tigers Roll Over UW-La Crosse

The Colorado women's lacrosse team dominated in their first game of the weekend in Georgetown, Texas. The Tigers handled the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse by a final score of 21-6. With the win, CC is now 3-0 to start play in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC)
 
Freshman Meilani Molina scored a career-high five goals and an assist to lead the Tigers with six points. Molina scored three consecutive goals in the second quarter and two in the third. The San Diego native had three goals coming into Friday and nearly doubled her season total in a single game. 
 
CC's offensive firepower was on full display as they outshot the Eagles 48-12—the 48 shots, with 36 on goal, a new season-high for the Tigers. Tobin Lonergan was a key contributor with 10 shots in total, finishing the game with two goals, two assists, and four shots on goal. Another standout was first-year player Sofia Mancino, who followed Molina with tharee goals and four shots on goal. 
 
After the Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead 29 seconds in the game with the first goal, CC responded with four straight goals to take advantage, and the Tigers didn't fall behind for the remainder of the game. CC went into the second quarter with an 8-2 lead. In the second, UWL was held to only one shot while the Tigers took 17, the most of any of the four quarters, and outscored the Eagles 6-0. 
 
The second half was much like the first. UWL scored first to bring the game to 14-3, CC, but the Tigers countered again with five unanswered goals, including two woman-up goals from Molina and Mancino. Healy Bledsoe and Grace Bean racked up scores in the final quarter as CC cruised to their third-straight conference win and seventh win overall. 
 
The seven consecutive wins are the longest streak CC has ridden since the 2019 season when the team won 14 in a row to start the year. 

Kendall Havill finished the game with two goals, an assist and three ground balls. Fellow seniors Devon Ortman and Caroline Shay also impressed. Ortman dished out three goals, three causts turnovers and four draw controls. Shay had two goals, a ground ball and a caused turnovers 
 
The Tigers continue their road trip to play Southwestern University, the other WIAC affiliate member, on Sunday, April 14th, at 1 p.m. MT.
