The Colorado College women's tennis team split a pair of matches against SCAC opponents on Friday, defeating the University of St. Thomas, 8-1, before falling to 14^th-ranked Trinity University, 7-2.
 
The Tigers jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after the doubles matches against St. Thomas. After the Celts won the No. 1 match, CC's No. 2 team of Lindsay Popeo and Elizabeth Girian downed Ella Mullins and Jenny Reynolds, 8-5, then Abby Wilson and Sydney Vine won the No. 3 match, 8-2, over Nataly Velasco and Annie Tran.
 
CC won all six matches in straight sets, including a 6-1, 6-1, victory by Kala Komanduri over Anamaria Gonzalez at the No. 1 position.
 
In the nightcap, Trinity swept the three doubles matches to take an early 3-0 lead. However, CC stayed with the Texas Tigers in singles play, winning two of the six and taking another to three sets.
 
Popeo rallied to defeat Cate Cushing, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(5) at the No. 3 position, while Gigi Jensen did the same at the No. 4 spot, downing Elodie Richard, 4-6, 7-6(5), 1-0(8). Meanwhile, Wilson stretched Constanza Gomez to the limit before falling, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0(1), at No. 6.
 
The Tigers (6-11, 2-1 SCAC) return to action on Sunday, April 21, against No. 41 Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, beginning at 10 a.m. (CT).
