On Friday evening, the Colorado College women's lacrosse team secured at least a share of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title. The Tigers downed the University of Wisconsin-River Falls 20-1 for their first conference title since 2022, when CC won the SCAC Championship.
Â
The Tigers exploded for 14 goals in the first half and never looked back. CC racked up nine goals in the first quarter and an additional five in the second to get the running clock going before the halftime break. CC dished out an extra six scores in the second half to secure their 11th win of the season and end their two-game skid. CC secured their winningest season since 2019 when they finished 18-2 and made it to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.Â
"I think it was a total team win performance today," head coach
Susan Stuart said. "11 different players with points, three players with 5+ draw controls. Healy had her best day as a two-way middie."Â
Â
It was a team effort, with seven players scoring multiple goals.
Kendall Havill,
Charlotte Iler, and
Healy Bledsoe stood out with three goals each. Bledsoe stood out, achieving her first career three-goal game and maintaining a perfect shot percentage. She added a significant defensive contribution with two groundballs, giving her 33 on the season, tied for second on the team.Â
Â
Havill racked up her fourth consecutive game with three goals or more. The senior led the team with five shots and finished with two ground balls and a caused a turnover. Iler added her ninth three-goal game to her young career as she is seven goals away from 50, a remarkable mark in her first season.Â
Â
Seven different Tigers scored in the first quarter, including
Grace Bean, who recorded the final two goals of the quarter to put CC up 9-0. Bean scored less than 21 seconds between each goal, as the sophomore now has 13 goals on the season.Â
Â
Havill scored consecutive goals in the second, while
Devon Ortman scored her second of the day with 1:57 left in the half. In the third,
Ella Roe racked up her sixth goal of the season to put CC up 15-0. Roe also scored the game's final goal to match her career-high of two goals.Â
Â
The Tigers outshot the Falcons 34-9, including 28-9 on target. CC was also solid in transition, converting 15 of 20 clear attempts while forcing nine unsuccessful clears for UW-River Falls.Â
Â
CC won 20 of 24 draw controls;
Sofia Mancino and Ortman each collected six of them. Ortman has 91 on the season, which is fifth all-time in a single season in program history. She is currently second all-time 255 career draw controls.Â
"I think we moved the ball well, stayed really disciplined on defense, only giving up 1 free position," Stuart said. "I was proud of our response coming off a disappointing East Coast road trip. We played fast, clean Tiger ball!"
Â
With the win, the Tigers secure at least a share of the regular-season WIAC title and will look for an outright share on Saturday when they take on UW-Stevens Point at 5 p.m. MT in Stevens Point, WI. The WIAC tournament will occur next weekend, and CC is looking to secure the No. 1 seed.Â
