CC Secures WIAC Title, Havill Breaks Regular Season Goal Record

It was a good day in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. A conference title was won and a record was broken.

Senior captain Kendall Havill now stands alone with the most goals in a season in Colorado College women's lacrosse program history; The Washington native has 76 on the season, surpassing the former record of 74 set in Annie DeFrino in 2017. Havill led the Tigers to a 22-2 win over the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to secure the outright possession of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Atheltic Conference regular season title.

"The team played some really good lacrosse today," head coach Susan Stuart said. "We set some goals for the game, which they met through some very disciplined play."

In the game that sealed the first conference title since 2021, Havill was a force to be reckoned with. She notched up five goals, two assists, seven points, a ground ball and a caused turnover. This performance is a testament to her All-American status and her consistent scoring ability, having scored in every game of her historic career. This game also marked her eighth five-goal game and her seventh seven-point game of the season.

13 Tigers put goals in the back of the net to secure their ninth 20-goal game of the season. CC's offensive season is one of the best in program history. They currently rank third in the country and first in the WIAC with 299 goals—one goal shy of the 300 mark.

Sophomore Grace Bean tied her career-high five points with three goals and two assists. The Boston, MA native scored her first in the second quarter and the final two of the game. CC got an early 6-0 lead in the first quarter and continued to pour on the points in the second. Havill dished out three goals in the second quarter as CC scored a game-high nine goals in the second to take a 15-0 lead into the halftime break.

The onslaught continued into the third quarter as the Tigers added another three to make it 18-0 before UW-Stevent Point scored its first goal with 6:05 left in the third.

CC's defense was near perfection on Saturday; the Tigers caused seven turnovers, and the Pointers finished the game with 23 turnovers. CC also controlled the groundballs, nabbing 22 while holding Stevens Point to 12. Healy Bledsoe and Caroline Shay led the team with three each. Bledsoe added another goal, making it four over the weekend for the Bend. OR native has eight on the season, three shy of her career-high she set in 2021.

Senior Devon Ortman added another goal and a ground ball. Oakland also finished with six draw controls, giving her 97 on the season, three away from becoming the fifth player in program history with 100 in a single season.

"We showed some swagger with some great goals by Kendall (behind the back) and Grace (between the legs), but backed up the show with some amazing hustle plays, turning away over 1/2 their transitions," Stuart said.

CC wraps up the regular season with a 12-4 record, its best mark since 2019. It now looks ahead to the WIAC Tournament, which begins next Saturday, May 4. Despite CC winning the regular season title and securing the No. 1 seed, the highest-seeded Wisconsin school will host, UW-River Falls, who will be the No. 2 seed.
