Make it five wins in a row for the No. 24 ranked Colorado College women's lacrosse team. The Tigers downed UW-Eau Claire 20-4 in the season's first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game. In a contest between the two winningest teams in the WIAC, CC dominated wire-to-wire as four players had three or more goals.
The five-game win streak is the longest since the end of the 2021 season, when CC won six straight to end the season. CC has also scored 20 goals on four occasions this year, the first time since 2022.
CC improved to 7-1 at Washburn. The seven wins at home is the most since the 2019 season when the Tigers went 10-0.
Freshman Charlette Iler led the team with a career-high five goals. The Connecticut native has scored four or more goals on four occasions this year. She ended the game with seven shots, five points, a caused turnover, and a ground ball.
Fellow first-year player
Sofia Mancino also scored a career-high three goals. Senior
Kendall Havill extended her goal-scoring streak 27 games (she has played in 27 games in her career). The captain collected four assists to end the day with eight points, marking the fourth time Havill has recorded eight or more points in a game this season.
Senior
Devon Ortman also had a multi-goal game; she finished with three goals and an assist. The Oakland native is one ground ball shy of 100 career ground balls after she collected one on Friday.
The Tigers never trailed the Blugolds after Ortman struck first with 11:41 remaining in the first quarter. Havill scored her first two with 9:51 and 9:05 remaining. The Tigers outshot the Blugolds 29-8 in the first half alone. By the end of the game, CC had put up 41 shots to UW-EC's 14.
At the end of the first, the Tigers had a 3-0 lead. Then CC went on a scoring spree in the second, racking up eight goals to the Blugolds' lone score. Iler, Havill,
Tobin Lonergan,
Oliv Janerico, and Ortman all scored to put CC on top by 10 heading into the halftime break.
With a running clock throughout the entire second half, the Tigers didn't let up despite a change in the lineup. Most of the roster saw the field, and the freshmen took over. Iler scored three second-half goals, Mancino scored twice, and
Meilani Molina collected her third career goal in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers closed out the game, limiting the Blugolds to six second-half shots. At the midline, CC also controlled the draw; Ortman led the team with seven draw controls as CC won 17 of the possible 26.
Goalkeeper
Cassidy Schnaufer collected seven saves in the winning effort.
CC will finish their home schedule on Sunday against the University of Wisconsin-Stout on Senior Day. Game time is set for 11 a.m. MT at Washburn, with Senior Day festivities to follow the game.
