No. 24 CC's Winning Streak Ends Against TLU

The No. 24 Colorado College women's basketball team had its seven-game winning streak end on Sunday afternoon in Seguin, Texas, against Texas Lutheran after falling 76-65.

Senior Zoë Tomlinson led the team with 27 points and 16 rebounds. The New York native is one rebound shy of tying Lorna Kollmeyer for most career rebounds in program history. Tomlinson sits second with 1,098 in her illustrious career and needs only two to surpass Kollmeyer.

Junior Kayla Mackel followed with 23 points, nine rebounds and three assists. The Tigers outrebounded the Bulldogs 44-35 but shot only 39.3 percent from the floor and could not come back after TLU jumped out to an early lead.

TLU went on a 10-2 run in the first three minutes of the first quarter. CC was limited to only 26 percent shooting in the opening 10 minutes and fell behind 20-12 heading into the second quarter.

CC managed to cut into the lead and make it a 24-20 contest with 8:01 remaining in the half thanks to back-to-back buckets from Mackel, including a three-pointer. The Houston native finished with three three-pointers.

TLU went on another run after CC's scoring spurt, worked its advantage back out to 10, and led 39-29 at the halftime break.

Kyle Rowland led the team with six points in the third quarter. However, the Bulldogs maintained their lead, outsourcing the Tigers 17-15.

In the fourth, Healy Bledsoe and Tomlinson scored on three straight possessions to cut the lead to within six (59-53) with 7:08 remaining. A minute later, the Bulldogs countered with a three-pointer to balloon the lead back out to nine.

The Bulldogs held off the Tigers in the final minutes, but CC ultimately lost 76-65 and moved to 11-2 on the season.

CC will return home to host Concordia University and McMurry on Jan. 17 and 19 at Reid Arena.
