CC Returns Home To Battle Concordia (TX) And McMurry

The Colorado College men's basketball team hopes to maintain its two-game winning streak as it hosts Concordia University (TX) and McMurry at Reid Arena on Friday and Sunday.

It will be the first matchup against both teams as conference foes, as both institutions joined the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference last summer.

Last Time Out

CC went 2-0 in Texas against Southwestern and Texas Lutheran last weekend. On Friday against the Pirates, the Tigers were led by Asher Nofziger, who dished out his sixth 20+ point game. The Denver native was 8-13 from the floor and finished with three rebounds, an assist and a steal. Senior Devin Philio led the team with nine rebounds, and junior Corey Shivley scored a career-high nine points.

On Sunday, the Tigers dominated in the second half, limiting the Bulldogs to only 22.22 percent from the floor as CC won 97-56.

Five players scored in double-digits. Nofziger had 18 points, nine rebounds, a season-high seven assists, and a steal. CC finished 21-25 from the free throw line.

Sophomore Ty Hendler scored 14 points and finished with three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Senior Scott Ruegg dished 13 points, a team-high three three-pointers, three rebounds and a steal.

Biggest Margin Of Victory in 21 Years

CC's 41-point win over TLU was the program's largest margin of victory since they defeated Caltech 99-33 on Nov. 30, 2003.

Player Of The Week

Asher Nofziger was named the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, January 6, through Sunday, January 12.

Nofziger led the Tigers to a 2-1 week, including a 2-0 trip to Texas against SWU and TLU. He averaged 20 points per game, 10.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

He dished out 20+ point performances against UC Santa Cruz on Monday and Southwestern on Friday. It's the second POTW honor for the Denver native.

Scouting The Opposition

Concordia (TX) is 3-8, entering its first-ever SCAC matchup in Colorado. The Tornadoes are 0-2 in the conference after losing back-to-back matchups to Schriener and Trinity last weekend.

They are led by junior guard Caleb Gordan, who averages 19.7 points per game but hasn't played since Nov. 24.

Junior Joey Ramirez is the leading scorer, having played at least 10 games and scoring 15.7 ppg.

McMurry has the same record as Concordia and will face St. Thomas in Houston, TX, on Friday before coming to Colorado on Sunday. The Warhawks won their first SCAC game over Schreiner on Jan. 11, 67-65.
