The Colorado College men's basketball team fell to Concordia University (TX) on Friday, Jan. 17, with a final score of 82-66.
Four Tigers scored in double-digits, including senior
Devin Philio, who finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, three blocks, and two steals. Senior
Scott Ruegg hit three three-pointers to contribute to his 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and a steal. Junior
Asher Nofziger and senior
Orion Samikoglu combined for 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
The Tornadoes were led by Aaron San Miguel, who scored a game-high 27 points. CTX shot 46.0 percent from the floor and limited the Tigers to 34 percent shooting.
CTX gained the early lead before CC grabbed its first lead with a Samikoglu three-pointer to make it 6-4 with 17:34. The Tigers worked it up to as much as a five-point advantage before the Tornadoes countered with a run in the middle of the first half and regained a 15-14 lead, to take it into the half up 40-26.
In the second, six Tigers scored, led by Philio with six. CTX built its lead to as many as 19 with 15 minutes remaining. The Tigers attempted to battle back and cut into the advantage, but they trailed by eight with a minute remaining.
CTX managed to get to the free-throw line, forced some late turnovers, and stole the game with a couple of fast-break layups, winning 82-66.
CC outrebounded the Tornadoes 42-31, but CTX had 29 points off turnovers compared to the Tigers' nine. The Tornadoes also outscored the Tigers in the paint 40-20.
The Tigers dropped to 6-8 (2-3 SCAC) and will face McMurry on Sunday at 3 p.m. MT in another first-time SCAC matchup.
