Tigers Host Gents & Eagles In Marquee SCAC Weekend

The Colorado College men's basketball team hosts a significant weekend in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference as Centenary and the University of Ozarks visit Reid Arena.

CC (7-8) hosts Centenary (6-9) on Friday at 7:30 pm MT and Ozarks (12-3) on Sunday at 3 pm MT.

In The Standings

CC is fourth in the SCAC Blue Division, while Ozarks and Centenary are second and third with 4-2 conference records, respectively. If the Tigers defeat the Gents and Eagles, they will move second behind St. Thomas, which has yet to lose in league play.

By the end of the regular season, the top three teams from each division will advance to the SCAC Tournament, slated to start on Feb. 28 in Irving, Texas.

Last Time Out

The Tigers went 1-1 last weekend against Concordia (TX) and McMurry. On Friday, they lost 82-66 to the Tornadoes but bounced back to defeat the War Hawks 92-75 on Sunday.

Senior Devin Philio put up a career-high 24 points on Sunday. The Aurora native finished the weekend averaging 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game. He also went 12-15 from the free throw line over the two games.

CC outrebounded McMurry 39-32 and converted 23 of 29 attempts from the free-throw line. Defensively, the Tiger nabbed a season-high 13 steals and forced 17 turnovers.

Against The Field

CC ranks in the Top 5 of most major statistical categories, both offensive and defensive, in the SCAC. The Tigers have the best free-throw shooting team, sinking 74.4 percent of their shots. They have the fourth-best shooting team, averaging 44.8 percent from the floor.

Defensively, CC has the fourth-best scoring defense, surrendering only 72.9 points per game.

The Tigers have the second-best three-point shooting offense, converting on 35.7 percent of shots from long range.

CC's rebounding margin (+5.5) is second best in the SCAC, behind only Ozarks.

Scouting The Opposition

Centenary enters Friday as the winner of three of its last four contests but lost its most recent outing against Texas Lutheran. Friday will be a rematch of last season's SCAC Tournament Championship Game, which the Gents won 83-76.

The Gents are engineered by seniors Craig Collier, who averages 16.5 points per game, and Jakobi Greenleaf, who leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per contest.

Ozarks is 12-3 overall in its first year in the SCAC. The Eagles are 4-2 within conference play but lost only one non-conference game to Belhaven on Nov. 16. They are led by senior wing Justice Marmara, who averages 16.4 ppg and 6.5 rebounds per game. Sophomore Cedrick Dodd follows with 15.3 ppg and grabs 6.2 rebounds per game.
