On Sunday, senior
Zoë Tomlinson received her game ball for breaking the all-time career rebounding record for No. 25 Colorado College. She added to her rebounding resume with a season-high 20 rebounds to lead the Tigers to a 72-48 win over the University of the Ozarks.
Tomlinson scored 35 points, marking the third time this season (all within the last four games) that she scored 34 or more. She also had two assists and three blocks. CC had 51 rebounds, the second-most in a game this season.
Junior
Kayla Mackel followed with 20 points, four three-pointers, three rebounds, and five assists.
Junior
Avery Johnson grabbed a career-high eight boards and added five points and three assists. Senior
Laura Strenk gave out seven assists and finished with five points and three rebounds.
The Tigers and Eagles traded leads throughout the first two quarters. CC trailed 14-13 at the end of the first despite Tomlinson scoring the Tigers' first eight points. She ended the quarter with 10 and was two rebounds shy of a double-double.
CC took over the lead with a layup by Tomlinson with 7:13 left and built the lead up to 22-16 with a Johnson three-pointer and a pair of Strenk free throws.
A few minutes later, Mackel dropped it off the glass, increasing the lead to 26-18 with 2:41 remaining.
The Eagles countered with a 9-0 run over the final two minutes of the half, including a three-pointer with six seconds left, and led 27-26 at the break.
In the third, CC's defense bowed up and held Ozarks to only 29.41 percent shooting and five made field goals. The Tigers shot 47.83 percent, their best quarter of the game, and retook the lead, building it up to an 11-point lead heading into the fourth.
Mackel led the team with 12 points, going 2-2 from long range, as Tomlinson added eight.
With their first double-digit lead of the afternoon, the Tigers didn't diminish in effort or decline in production, holding the Eagles to only two made shots in the fourth and an 18 percent clip.
Tomlison added her final 11 points in the fourth quarter as
Kyle Rowland and
Juliana Garcia combined for seven points to build CC's lead to a game-high 25.
CC shot 50 percent (9-18) in the final ten minutes and didn't let Ozarks come within 13 points.
The Tigers improved to 15-2, their best start through 17 games since the 1976-77 season. They will travel to take on Austin College on Friday, Jan. 31, and the University of Dallas on Feb. 2.
