No. 24 CC Heads To Texas To Battle 'Roos & Crusaders

The Colorado College women's basketball team heads to Texas to face Southern Collegiate opponents Austin College and the University of Dallas on Friday and Sunday.

The Tigers are coming off two emphatic wins at Reid Arena, which saw them score a program record of 109 points against Centenary and move up in the national poll to no. 24, their highest ranking ever.

Senior Zoë Tomlinson needs only 31 rebounds to tie the SCAC all-time career rebounding record of 1,178.

Last Time Out

Zoë Tomlinson led all scorers with 20 points against Centenary in the historic 109-37 victory. Junior Kayla Mackel hit five three-pointers out of the seven she attempted. She opened the scoring for the Tigers with a three-pointer, then hit a subsequent three more, scoring the Tigers' first 12 points.

Multiple Tigers had career nights: sophomore Willa McLaughlin recorded her first career double-double. She played a career-high 24 minutes and notched four assists. Freshman Addie Meyer and sophomore Sofia Rocca had career highs in minutes, points and rebounds.

"This was one of those games where we competed at a high level from start to finish and capped off a great week of preparation with a solid performance. I'm proud of this group and excited to keep working as we get deeper into conference play," head coach Katherine Auguste said.

The Tigers rolled past the University of the Ozarks the following night, 72-48. Tomlinson added a season-high 20 rebounds and scored 34 points. Junior Avery Johnson had a career-high eight rebounds. Mackel had another strong night, going 2-2 from long range and finishing with 20 points total.

The wins vs. Centenary and Ozarks brought the Tigers to 15-2 overall and 9-0 at home. CC is 7-1 in SCAC, first in the Blue Division and second overall. Only Texas Lutheran has a better record.

In The Polls

The victories saw the Tigers move to No. 24 in the D3Hoops top 25 national poll. It's their highest ranking ever.

They broke into the polls for the first time in program history this season but fell out after the loss to Texas Lutheran on Jan. 12. Since then, CC has won four straight and returned to the rankings. They are currently receiving votes in the WBCA national poll.

A Look At The Opposition

The Tigers will face Austin College on Friday, Jan. 31, in Sherman, Texas. The Tigers have won the last six meetings between the two. Austin is currently 7-9 overall and 3-5 in SCAC play. They sit in fourth place of the Blue Division, losing their last four games to SCAC opponents.

Then, CC travels to Irving, Texas, to battle the University of Dallas. The Tigers have come out on top in the previous two matchups against the Crusaders, who are currently 2-15 overall and 1-7 in conference play. They notched their first conference win against Schreiner University two weeks ago but followed it with two losses last weekend, falling to Texas Lutheran and Southwestern.
