Tigers Head To Texas For SCAC Roadtrip

The Colorado College men's basketball team travels to Texas for its first two-game conference road trip of the season. The Tigers will take on Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University in a pair of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference contests on Friday, Jan. 10 at 7:30 pm CT and Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2 pm CT. 
 
Last Time Out
 
CC suffered two tough losses at the hands of St. Thomas and UC Santa Cruz last weekend at Reid Arena. The Tigers fell 73-70 to the Celts and 89-85 to the Banana Slugs. 
 
On Saturday, CC was led by Devin Philio's 20-point and 12-rebound performance. Three other players scored in double digits. Senior Scott Ruegg scored 14 points, went 3-5 from long range, and had two rebounds, an assist, and two steals. Sophomore Ty Hendler finished with 11 points, two rebounds, and an assist. Asher Nofgizer added 10 points, three boards and three assists.
 
Junior Asher Nofziger led the team with 22 points and a career-high 19 rebounds on Monday against UC Santa Cruz. The Denver native dominated the glass, swiping eight offense rebounds. He finished the game with two assists and went 14-17 from the free-throw line. CC nearly overcame a 17-point deficit, outscored the Banana Slugs 43-35 in the second half, and made 10 three-pointers. 
 
Tiger Tales
 
Nofziger leads the team and is fourth in the SCAC with 18.4 points per game and third in the conference with 9.5 rebounds. 
 
He is the first player since CooXooEii Black to average double-digit points and nine rebounds per game. 
 
Devin Philio leads the SCAC in field goal percentage, making 69.0 percent of his shots. He is third on the team with 12.9 points per game. Scott Ruegg is second on the team with 13.6 ppg and first with 34 three-pointers. 
 
Scouting The Opposition
 
Southwestern is currently fourth in the SCAC Gold Division. Its only win of the season came on Jan. 4 against Texas Lutheran. 
 
Senior Brock Luetchefeld leads the team with 12.5 ppg and 7.3 rebounds per game. 
 
Texas Lutheran in the Gold Division despite losing its last matchup against the Pirates, The Bulldogs are 1-1 in conference play and 3-8 overall. TLU and Southwestern traded wins in a home-and-home weekend. 
 
Junior guard Trey Blackmore is the Bulldogs' leading scorer with 13.5 ppg. Teddy Tampken (11.3 ppg) and Mason Wallace (11.3 ppg) are the other players averaging double-digit points per contest.
