The Colorado College women's basketball team fell to No. 23 Hope College 71-47 in Grand Rapids, Mich., on Friday night. CC (0-1) was led by 14 points and four rebounds from senior
Kayla Mackel, but the Flying Dutchmen held the Tigers to only 37 percent from the floor.
Hope came out strong, scoring 24 points on 55.6 percent in the first quarter. CC shot 58.33 percent from the floor in the opening 10 minutes; however, the Flying Dutchmen made four three-pointers and led 24-18 heading into the second.
The Tiger defense bounced back in the second, holding Hope to only 35.3 percent shooting while CC cut the lead down to 31-28 with 3:46 left in the half.
Hope went on an eight-point run to retire the half and led by nine at the break. In the third,
Isa Nelson nailed a jumper with 8:01 remaining to make it 40-32. The Flying Dutchmen answered another run and outscored the Tigers 23-9 to balloon their lead to 60-37 heading into the fourth.
Sophomore
Payton Gates led the team with four points as CC outscored Hope 11-10 in the final 10 minutes but ultimately fell 71-47.
Senior
Avery Johnson led the team with six rebounds and finished with five points from 22 minutes on the floor.
Guard
Andie Will made her return to the floor and finished with seven points, one block and two steals.
Freshman
Iliana Greene made her first collegiate start and recorded 13 minutes, two points, one rebound and an assist. Junior transfer
Naiya Kurnik made her CC debut and recorded three points, three rebounds, three assists and a steal.
CC will face No. 18 Calvin University tomorrow, Nov. 15th, at 2 p.m. MT.
