CC Downed By No. 12 Calvin

Senior Asher Nofziger scored a season-high 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but Colorado College fell to No. 12 Calvin University 85-70 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Nofziger shot 50 percent from the floor and went 9-11 from the free-throw line. He finished with an assist and a steal. CC outscored Calvin 43-40 in the second half, but a strong first-half outing helped the Knights keep the lead.

"I was proud of our team's effort today," head coach Jeff Conarroe said. "You can't dig a big hole against a top 15 team and expect to come out on top. This team has proven they can make a run, but we can't rely on a comeback; we need to get off to better starts."

Three Tigers finished in double digits. Senior Russell MacFarlane finished with 11 points, six boards, an assist and a block.

Freshman TJ Satcher scored a career-high 10 points and recorded a rebound, a block and a game-high three steals.

The Knights came out of the gates shooting 62.50 percent in the first half compared to CC"s 28.6 percent from the floor. Calvin built up a seven-point lead in the opening eight minutes before the Tigers slimmed it back down to three thanks to consecutive buckets from Satcher with 11:01 remaining in the half.

Calvin went on a run over the second part of the first half and built its lead to 45-27 at the break.

In the second half, Nofziger led the team with 14 points, followed by MacFarlane's 10 points. CC was able to work the margin back down to seven points (67-60) with 5:17 remaining behind a series of shots made by Nofziger, Satcher and Christian Drummond

However, Calvin extended the lead back to 17 points and held on for the eventual 85-70 victory.

CC shot 46.3 percent from the floor in the second half compared to Calvin's 45.16 percent. The Tigers outshot the Knights from the free-throw line (25-21), but were outrebounded 43-28.

"We have to stay committed to the process and continue to grow," Conarroe said. "I really like our team and our chances if we do—another good opportunity for us tomorrow."

The Tigers will travel to Kalazamoo, Mich., to take on Kalamazoo College on Sunday, Nov. 16, at noon MT.
