Tigers Light Up Hornets In First Road Win

Five Tigers scored in double digits to propel Colorado College over Kalamazoo College 83-67 on Sunday in Kalamazoo, Mich.

Freshman forward Ryan Krantz led all players with a career-high 14 points and shot 71.4 percent from the floor (5-7) and 66.7 percent from three-point range (4-6).

"The guys responded to today after a disappointing defensive effort last night," head coach Jeff Conarroe said. "I thought we were outstanding on the defensive end in the first half to build a good lead. In the second half, our three-point shooting finally showed up, which was great to see.

Senior Asher Nofziger followed with 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, one block and a steal. Russell MacFarlane recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

Junior Gavin Carter added 12 points, four rebounds, a season-high seven assists and three steals. Orion Samikoglu rounded out the scoring efforts with 10 points and finished with three boards, one assist and a steal.

CC shot 46.9 percent from the floor, including 47.8 percent from three-point range. The Tigers held the Hornets to 39.1 percent from long range and 45.5 percent from the floor.

The Tigers jumped out to a 33-23 lead at the half after shooting only 37.14 percent, but they held the Hornets to 30.77 percent shooting. Nofziger and MacFarlane led the Tigers with six points each at the break. CC shot only 3-12 from long range in the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, both offenses picked up steam. Kalamazoo attempted to come back and cut the lead down to 48-39 with 12:19 remaining. Carter drilled a three-pointer in response to bring the lead back to 12 points.

CC shot an incredible 72.73 percent from long range in the second half, making eight three-pointers off only 11 attempts.

Krantz and Satcher made a trio of three-pointers with 10 minutes remaining, marking one of the best runs of the game for the Tigers and stole the momentum back. Kalamazoo made consecutive three-pointers with 8:26 remaining to cut the lead down to 62-54, but a Krantz three-pointer shut down the run.

CC went on a 15-9 run over the final five minutes of play to seal the eventual 83-67 victory to improve to 2-1 on the season.

"The guys are getting tougher every game, especially on the glass, where I thought we did a much better job, especially Russ," Conarroe said. "Good weekend for us overall, got to keep getting better each week!"

The Tigers will play a pair of games next week in Staunton, Va., against Pfeiffer University on Saturday, Nov. 2,2 and Mary Baldwin on Nov. 23.
