Tigers Head West For A Pair Of Road Games

The Colorado College women's basketball team heads west for a pair fo games in Forest Grove, Ore., against the University of Puget Sound and Pacific University. 
 
CC (2-1) will look for its third straight win on Friday when the Tigers battle the Loggers at 5 p.m. MT and then face the Boxers on Saturday at 7 p.m. MT. 
 
Last Time Out
 
The Tigers went 2-1 on their first road trip last week in the Midwest. They dropped the season opener at No. 23 Hope College, then upset No. 18 Calvin, and finally pulled off a come-from-behind win against Aurora. 
 
Against Calvin, junior guard JuJu Garcia led the team with a career-high 15 points, one rebound, one assist, one block and two steals. Senior Andie Will followed with 12 points, seven rebounds and two steals. 
 
It was the first win over a ranked opponent since Feb. 5, 2023, when CC beat then-No. 1 Trinity University. 
 
Two days later in Aurora, the Tigers erased a 16-point second-half deficit to down the Spartans. 
 
CC was led by senior Kayla Mackel's season-high 24 points, six rebounds, one assist, two blocks, and three steals. 
 
Freshman Rayna Welsch racked up her first career double-double with 12 points, 14 rebounds and a block. JuJu Garcia also scored in double-digits, finishing with 13 points, two boards and two assists. 
 
CC trailed 53-37 with 4:33 remaining in the third quarter. The Tigers went on to outscore the Spartans 25-6 for the rest of the game. They held the Spartans scoreless in the final five minutes of the game. 
 
Scouting The Opposition
 
UPS has played only one game this season, and in it defeated Pomona-Pitzer 70-58 last Friday. Four players scored in double-digits, led by junior Paige Oh's 14 points, four assists and three steals. 
 
Last season, the Loggers went 11-15 but went 10-6 in conference play. 
 
Pacific is also 2-1 with wins over Lewis & Clark and Schreiner. The Boxers lost their most recent matchup on Sunday against Pomona-Pitzer, 61-57. Senior guard Shaade Williams leads the team with 15.7 points per game. Sophomore Sydney Esperanza is averaging a double-double with 10.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game.
