The Colorado College men's lacrosse fell to John Carroll University 15-13 in Cleveland, OH on Saturday evening. CC was led by sophomore
Matt Hudson, who tied his career-high six goals and freshman
Max Vota who added another three goals to his young career.
CC battled with JCU for the entire four quarters. There were four lead changes, as each team led by as many as three goals. The Tigers scored five in the first quarter and four in the second quarter to lead at the half, but the Blue Streaks scored five goals in the third to take the lead and hold off CC in the end.
Hudson led off the scoring inside the Krenzler Field bubble. The sophomore scored on a man-up opportunity with 13:48 remaining in the first after an assist from
Karsten Nyarady.
JCU scored four consecutive goals to take a 4-1 lead, but Hudson and
Will Hanson answered with back-to-back goals to cut the lead to 4-3 with 5:19 remaining.
After both teams exchanged goals for the next few minutes, CC scored five unanswered between the final minute of the first quarter and the first eight minutes of the second to take a 9-6 lead with 7:38 left in the half.
Hudson scored twice on the run,
Brooks Power and
Liam Goodwin scored their first-career goal, and Nyarady also found the back of the net.
JCU countered with two goals at the end of the second quarter, but CC went into the halftime break with a 9-8 advantage. The Blue Streaks continued their streak into the third, regaining a 10-9 lead with 9:03 remaining in the quarter. Vota scored his first two consecutive goals less than a minute apart from each other to tie the game 11-11 with 5:46 left.
The Blue Streaks responded with two more scores and led 13-11 heading into the fourth. In the final frame, Both teams scored twice. Hudson and Vota found the back of the net for CC, but JCU kept itself in front to hold on to the 15-13 victory.
CC outshot JCU 43-33 and was successful on 22 clears out of 23 attempts. The Tigers also picked up 37 ground balls compared to JCU's 22.
Trevor Mackles collected a team-high eight ground balls and won 14 faceoffs.
CC dropped to 2-2 and will return home on March 1 to host Moravian, kicking off a seven-game home stand.
