Tigers Capture First-Ever SCAC Team Title

With four individual titles on Saturday, the Colorado College men's swimming and diving team captured its first Southern College Athletic Conference Championship in program history.

The Tigers, who posted 11 individual and relay titles, finished with 1042 points, eight more than runner-up Trinity University, which had won the team title the previous five years.

CC's staff, led by first-year head coach Jen Buffin, was named the SCAC Coaching Staff of the Year. It is the third year in a row that the staff has won the honor.

Wyatt Wellehan opened the day by winning the 3-meter diving event after finishing third in the event last season. Wellehan, who posted an NCAA B cut score of 508.9 points, was named Diver of the Meet and won the prestigious Elite 19 award. Aidan Richter, who won the 1-meter title on Friday, finished third and Nico Rimer placed fourth.

Sam Allen won his first career SCAC title by capturing the 200 backstroke with a school-record time of 1:50.02, the third-fastest time in meet history. 2024 champion Caleb Peimann finished second in 1:50.87.

Collin Ralston won his fifth career title and first in the 200 breaststroke with a school-record time of 2:00.88, the second-fastest time in meet history. Andrew Colgan placed second 2:01.95.

Tomas Gonzalez captured the Tigers' final title of the day by winning the 200 butterfly for the second consecutive year, tying his school record with a time of 1:51.55. Kouske Soler finished fifth with a time of 1:58.74.

CC claimed several other all-SCAC results on Saturday, including Dax Sherwood and Liam McCarthy finishing second and third, respectively, in the 100 freestyle, Edmund Davis second in the 1650 freestyle followed by Carter Hagenauer in third and the quartet of Jack Hussin, Step Flanagan, Peimann and McCarthy wrapped up the meet and clinched the team title with a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:04.18.

Colgan finished second among all male swimmers and divers with 57 points, while Ralston tied for third with 53.

"This championship not only marks a new era of the program, but it has been about how our program wanted to show up to every meet this season," head coach Jen Buffin said. "Focusing on competing and winning races, supporting each other, and knowing it was not about one person. I am incredibly honored to coach this group. I want to thank our staff, parents, and alumni who were cheering us on throughout the week."
