Tigers Handle 'Roos For Third Straight Win

The Colorado College men's basketball team won its third straight game by downing Austin College 78-62 at Reid Arena on Friday night. Senior Asher Nofziger led the way with a game-high 22 points, eight rebounds and a steal. 
 
CC outscored the 'Roos 42-20 in the paint and outrebounded AC 36-33. The Tiger bench outscored the opposition's bench 28-6, led by sophomore Christian Drummond, who dished a career-high 15 points. 
 
The Colorado Springs product shot 71.4 percent (5-7) from the floor and finished the game with two rebounds, a career-high two assists and three steals. 
 
Senior Scott Ruegg and Nofziger led all scorers with nine points in the first half. Ruegg went 4-5 from the charity stripe in the opening half and finished the game with four rebounds and two steals. 
 
CC held AC to 37.04 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes of scrimmage. The Tigers shot 59.26 percent from the floor and built their lead to 14 heading into the half. Both teams traded leads in the first ten minutes. The Tigers took over after Will Hopkins drilled a three-pointer with 11:46 left to make it 20-18. 
 
The Tigers went on a 21-9 run to end the half and led 41-27 as they went into the locker room. 
 
CC's defense also held in the second half, holding AC to a 39.39 percent shooting clip despite shooting 38.71 on its offensive end. 
 
Nofziger led the scoring efforts in the second half, racking up 13 of his 22 points. Drummond scored 10 of his 15 points by shooting 3-4 out of the break. 
 
The Tigers ballooned their lead up to a game-high 24 points with 10:49 remaining after opening on a 20-10 run to open the second half. 
 
They managed the advantage for the remainder of the game and never led the 'Roos to come as close as 11 points to the lead. 
 
CC eventually won 78-62, completing the season sweep over AC and improved to 11-9 (7-4 SCAC). Dallas comes to town on Sunday, Feb. 9, with SCAC standings on the line. The Tigers sit second in the Blue Divison, and Dallas is fourth.
