CC Falls To Dallas In Final Seconds

The Colorado College men's basketball team fell to the University of Dallas 66-64 on Sunday afternoon at Reid Arena. The Crusaders scored with one second left to take the lead as CC couldn't get a shot off as time expired.

Senior Asher Nofziger put up a game-high 28 points, his most since scoring a career-high 32 against UChicago on Dec. 1. The Denver native finished with 11 rebounds, two assists, a bloc,k and two steals.

Scott Ruegg was the other Tiger in double-digits, racking up 10 points, four rebounds, an assist and two steals. CC had only seven turnovers and forced nine.

CC led 37-34 at the half after Nofziger scored 22 points in the first half. He was only three rebounds shy of a double-double. There were 17 lead changes in the first half alone. Both teams traded advantages. CC led by as many as three and trailed by as many as four.

In the second, five more lead changes were to start the half before the Tigers jumped out in front 52-50 with 10:38 remaining. Ruegg drilled a three-pointer to increase the lead to five points.

Dallas responded with back-to-back threes, but Ruegg's jumper and Nofziger's score inside the paint bumped the advantage to a game-high six points.

Trailing 59-53, the Crusaders went on a 7-0 run to regain the lead with 5:04 remaining. Devin Philio converted on a layup with 3:20 left, giving the Tigers a 61-60 lead.

Ty Hendler drilled a three-pointer after a couple of empty possessions for both teams to put CC up 64-60 with 1:43 left. Dallas scored twice on their next two possessions to tie the game at 64-64 with 47 seconds remaining.

Nofziger, unfortunately, missed the potential go-ahead bucket with 34 seconds on the clock after Dallas blocked his shot. The Crusaders had one more with less than 30 seconds left in the game. Jack Boylecouldo converted a floater in the paint with less than two seconds remaining, which was the game-winner for Dallas.

CC dropped to 11-10 (7-5 SCAC) but remains second in the SCAC Blue Division standings with four games remaining in the regular season.

The Tigers will hit the road for the final time, starting with a rematch against Centenary on Friday, Feb. 14, in Shreveport, LA.
