Tigers Hand Undefeated Titans First Loss Of The Season

Sophomore Matt Hudson's, junior Braydon Ellis' and freshman Max Vota's five point night elevated the Tigers over undefeated Illinois Wesleyan by a final score of 19-11 at Washburn Field.

Hudson and Ellis combined for 15 points, 28 shot, and an impressive win over the formerly undefeated Titans. It's CC's first-ever win over IWU in their three meetings.

The Tigers exploded out of the gates with five quick goals over the game's first five minutes. Aidan Niklaus, Ellis, Kevin Somerville, Hudson and Vota found the back of the net and gave CC a lead it never lost.

IWU countered with its first run, cutting the lead down to 7-6 midway through the second period, but the Tigers outdid their first scoring run, dishing six unanswered goals to take a 13-6 lead into the break.

CC outshot the Titans 28-23 in the first half.

The Tigers kept the pressure on the visiting Titans, outscoring them 4-3 in the third quarter and keeping the lead at least eight goals.

Up 17-9 as the fourth quarter initiated, Hudson and sophomore Quinn Gordon scored to put the game out of reach for an eventual 19-11 victory.

The 19 goals are the second most this season and the most since CC dished 21 against Rhodes in the season opener.

Freshman goaltender Jackson Lesher made 14 saves and improved his record to 5-3 to start his career.

CC will host Ursinus College on Sunday, March 16, at noon at Washburn Field.
