The Colorado College men's lacrosse team is off to its best start since the 2021 season after downing Ursinus College 18-9 on Sunday afternoon at Washburn Field to improve to 6-3.
CC is 6-1 at home and has scored 18 or more goals in consecutive games for the first time since April 19, 2024. Sophomore
Matt Hudson led the scoring efforts with four goals off nine shots, and freshmen
Max Vota and
Brooks Power followed suit, each with two goals and an assist.
"We never want to get off to a start like that, but the way we responded through the final three quarters shows how resilient we can be," head coach
Mike Horowitz said. "Our style of play in the open field means we are never out of a game. We can score in bunches."
The Tigers outscored the Bears 12-3 in the second half after trailing 5-1 at the end of the first. The Bears came out of the game hot and scored the first three goals before
Andrew Tan opened up the scoring for CC with his 11th goal of the season with 8:36 remaining in the first.
Ursinus responded with two additional scores and led by four at the first break. CC countered with a 5-1 run of their own in the second, starting with
Karsten Nyarady scoring after an assist from Vota with 13:46 left in the half.
Hudson, Vota,
Roman Tacelli and
Brooks Power all found the back of the net in the quarter to knot the game at 6-6 entering the halftime break.
CC dominated the third quarter; the Tigers outshot the Bears 14-7 and outscored them 6-0. Power started the scoring run, followed by
Kevin Somerville's third goal of the season and eventually
Liam Goodwin's second. Hudson scored two more and
Charlie Faldi's first goal of the year.
The Tigers built a 13-6 lead as the fourth quarter started. They cruised to an eventual 18-9 lead after
Kalan O'Hara and
Charlie Madden collected their first career goals.
Goalkeeper
Jackson Lesher made 15 saves and got his sixth win of the season. Junior
Robert Spence made his season debut in the cage and played six minutes and made two saves.
CC held Ursinus to a 72.2 percent clear percentage while clearing 91.7 percent of its own clears.
CC will have this next weekend off before hosting Elmhurst on March 28 for Senior Day.
