Peyton Murphy notched six points to lead the No. 19 Colorado College women's lacrosse team past DePauw University 13-9 in Memphis, Tenn. The Tigers (5-1) extended their winning streak to four straight.
Murphy scored two goals and assisted on four others, while sophomore Charolette Iler led the team with three goals. It's the fifth game this season for the Connecticut native with three or more goals. She currently ranks first in the WIAC with 22 goals.
:We had a tough start today facing an athletic DePauw team," head coach
Susan Stuart said. "In the second half, we created more scoring opportunities for ourselves. We took advantage of their foul trouble, giving us numerous chances in numbers-up situations. We played disciplined defense throughout, which gave us an edge in the end."
Senior
Tobin Lonergan scored a season-high five points (2g,3a), and freshman
Riley Sterling added two more goals to her season total.
Iler opened up the scoring with her first two goals in the first period, followed by Lonergan's first to make it 3-0 CC with 11:17 remaining. DePauw ended the scoring streak a few minutes later before Iler buried her third goal with 4:46 left.
The teams exchanged goals in the second, including Sterlin,g who scored consecutively to end the half as CC led 6-4 at the break.
In the third, the goals continued to alternate, junior
Grace Bean scored her seventh goal of the season on an unassisted score. Lonergan got her second of the game as well and
Ella Roe scored her first of the season with 38 seconds remaining in the quarter to make it 9-6.
Peyton Murphy took over the fourth quarter, gathering both of her goals to seal the game for the Tigers. Sophomores Meghan Colling and
Meilani Molina also found the back of the net to make it a five-goal game with five minutes remaining.
CC cruised to the eventual 13-9 victory to improve to 5-1 on the season. The Tigers outshot their opposition 44-21, the most this season.
Sofia Mancino led the team with five draw controls, a season-high for the New York native.
Frances Hansot led the team with four ground balls as CC grabbed 14 to DePauw's 10. The Tigers went 11-14 on clears and forced DePauw to have 18 turnovers.
CC will return home to Washburn Field to host SUNY New Paltz on Monday, March 17th at 4 pm MT.
