On Tuesday at Washburn Field, the Colorado College men's lacrosse team routed Aurora University 14-6 to improve to 4-2 on the season and 4-0 at home for the first time since 2021.
Sophomore
Matt Hudson and freshman
Max Vota combined six goals and nine points. The pair took a combined 12 shots as the Tigers never trailed against the Spartans and outshot them 42-27.
"At yesterday's practice, we put major emphasis on bringing a ton of energy to our warmup," head coach
Mike Horowitz said. "We knew it would carry over to a fast start in the first quarter. We executed exactly how we wanted from the opening draw."
CC's defense was rock solid, forcing 22 turnovers and holding the Spartans to a 56.00 percent clear percentage.
The Tigers put up seven goals in the first quarter from five players. Hudson and Vota got their first two and
Roman Tacelli,
Andrew Tan and
Luke Smith all collected tallies.
CC scored the first three unanswered before the Spartans got on the board with 10:08 left in the quarter. The Tigers countered with another four unanswered to go into the second quarter up 7-1.
Brayden Legette added another goal in the second as CC led 8-1 at the halftime break.
Both teams traded goals to start the second half, but Tan's second goal started a three-goal run by the Tigers that included a Hudson man-up goal. Aurora added one more to their total with two seconds left in the quarter to cut the lead to 12-3 entering the fourth.
The Tigers kept their foot on the pedal, and as freshman
Brooks Power collected his second-career goal, fellow first-year
Henri Downer flushed his first-career goal to make it 14-4 with 10:31 remaining to seal the victory.
The Spartans collected two more, but it was too late as CC cruised to the 14-6 victory to remain unbeaten on its home turf.
Nine Tigers scored goals as
Andrew Tan had another multi-goal performance, his fourth on the season. He is third on the team with nine goals, trailing Hudson and Vota.
CC will play St. John Fisher on Saturday at 1 p.m., and Aurora will face the Cardinals on Thursday at noon at Washburn.
