No. 17 CC Routs UW-Eau Claire In WIAC Opener

The No. 17 Colorado College women's lacrosse team bounced back after an overtime loss yesterday with a 15-5 rout of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Sunday afternoon.

Sophomore Charlotte Iler led the team with six points (4g,2a) which ties her career high. The Connecticut native had six shots on net, four of which found the back of the net and she also grabbed a ground ball.

Senior Tobin Lonergan had a season-high five points with three goals, two assists, a ground ball, and a caused turnover. Peyton Murphy had another multi-goal game, scoring twice and having an assist. She is second on the team with 11 points behind Iler, who has 12.

CC jumped ahead early and never trailed against the Blugolds, racking up nine goals in the first quarter and surrendering only one. The Tigers scored their first four unanswered, with Iler, Meghan Collins and Sofia Mancino all finding the back of the next.

After Eau Claire scored its first goal with 9:55 remaining in the quarter, Iler, Lonergan, Murphy and freshman Riley Sterling contributed to a five-goal streak as CC entered the second with an eight-goal advantage.

Murphy scored her second goal to start the period in the second, followed by Iler's third goal six minutes later. With 12 seconds left until the half, freshman Grace Weber found the back of the net after an assist from Iler for her first career goal to give CC a 12-1 lead at the break.

With the clock running in the second half, the Tigers tallied three more goals in the third and fourth quarters to seal the eventual 15-5 win. CC extended its WIAC winning streak to nine games since joining the conference.

CC outshot Eau Claire 35-15. The Tigers were a perfect 19-19 on clear attempts, forcing the Blugolds to turn the ball over 17 times.

Sophomore Oliv Janerico tied her career-high of five draw controls and led the Tigers, winning 18 out of the possible 22.

CC returns home to host the Catholic University of America on Wednesday, March 12th, at 4 pm.
